Love Stories - Morgan & Joseph

Our Love Stories series celebrates our community's stories of love – from how it all began to what love means to them and more. In our first Love Stories, friends of Meadowlark – actor, Morgan Albrecht and art director, Joseph Leary share with us what they love most about each other and a little peek inside their special day...

How did you meet? In a photography studio on Karangahape Road.

What do you love most about each other?
Morgan: How Joseph sees the world - everything is art to him - people, places, things. He makes everyday life creative and artful.
Joseph: How do you condense everything into one sentence? I just love everything about her.

What does love mean to you?
Morgan: It’s something I’ve learned. A decision, every day.
Joseph: Being each other’s greatest cheerleaders.

What piece of Meadowlark jewellery would you gift to each other and why?
Morgan: The blue Micro Lapis Necklace Joseph wears as a bracelet now, it’s a mix of feminine/masculine. Like him - a cowboy in Vogue.
Joseph: I love the Amulet Love Necklace, it’s a beautiful pendant with pink sapphires. It has a classic nostalgic quality about it that I think would compliment Morgan perfectly.

Can you tell us all about your wedding?
So we were meant to have a West Auckland wedding at the family homestead on 4th April 2020 which turned out to be the very first Covid lockdown, so it shrank to the size of just the two of us at home in lockdown exchanging our own wedding vows that day… Our rings still have that engraved date in them and we got married in spirit. Two years later our family from California were visiting Aotearoa so it seemed like a good time to officially celebrate our love. We had a little micro-ceremony at home with our sister in law, Kitty-Joe who is a bonafide celebrant in the State of California and New York - she married us officially. Post-ceremony we celebrated with a few close friends in our backyard, West Auckland style.
