How to clean your jewellery: soda crystals

Every piece of Meadowlark jewellery is made with care from precious metals and natural gemstones, designed and crafted to be cherished for a lifetime and beyond.

Jewellery naturally tarnishes over time and whilst this is nothing to be alarmed about, you can minimise tarnish with proper storage and regular cleaning. With a little love and care, your special piece will stay beautiful for life.

Cleaning with Soda Crystals

This method is best for removing dirt and oxidisation build up from sterling silver & solid gold pieces. Please note however, we don't recommend this process for gold plated or pieces with stones or pearls.

YOU WILL NEED:
- Flat heatproof bowl/tray - Tin foil - Washing soda crystals - Freshly boiled water - Heatproof utensils (chopsticks are perfect!)

STEP 1:
Line your bowl or tray with tin foil and spread a generous layer of soda crystals onto the foil. Lay your jewellery onto the crystals.

STEP 2:
Pour boiling water gently into your tray until your jewellery is fully immersed. The water will begin to fizz and you may notice dirt lifting off!

Use your utensils to move your pieces around, allowing the soda crystals to get into every crevice.

STEP 3:
Once the soda crystals have stopped fizzing, lift your jewellery pieces out, rinse and pat each piece dry with a paper towel.

Finish off by wiping with a polishing cloth. Repeat if necessary.
