CANCER SEASON 2026

A Seasonal, Collective Forecast for Meadowlark
By Claire Morrison

The sun moved into Cancer on the 21st of June. For those of us in the southern hemisphere, we have just experienced our winter solstice, the longest night of the year. This is a beautifully sacred time, and Cancer season is the perfect container for it. This is the sign of home and nourishment, and of what we hold close. Make the most of these longer evenings and cook up something comforting. Light a fire or a candle. Get cosy and settle in for some early nights.

For those in the northern hemisphere, enjoy the long, warm, sunshine filled days post summer solstice. Cancer is a water sign, so seek out a body of water and swim or bathe. Get some morning sun in your eyes, walk barefoot on the grass (or the sand), and drink something cold and fizzy.

Cancer season this year carries a lot of weight. The first week is softer and inward, with some emotional complexity woven through. And then July arrives. July is a month that astrologers have been talking about for years, and the reason for that will become clearer as we move through it. If June has you resting and tending to yourself, excellent! This is preparation. You will want to be grounded for whatever comes through.

Late June

25th June
On the 25th, Pluto in Aquarius and Neptune in Aries form a flowing connection that requires some effort to work with, a sextile. These are two of the slowest planets in the sky and this aspect between them will hold all the way through Cancer season. It’s power meeting dissolution. We will come back to this later because it becomes the foundation for everything that builds in July.

Also on the 25th, Venus in Leo and Saturn in Aries are in a flowing connection. Leo is already warming up to be a big presence this year, and this trine with Saturn grounds that warmth into something you can build with. Set a goal that excites you. Be passionate and disciplined at the same time. Fire signs especially could feel this as a productive moment.

26th June
The sun in Cancer and Neptune in Aries create some dynamic tension that wants resolving. Cancer can be emotional and self-protective; Neptune in Aries can be impulsive or idealistic. The risk here is acting from big feelings or restlessness. It may be worth asking some more rational questions: what are you actually trying to begin or grow? What is lying underneath the impulse?

27th June
Mars in Taurus and Jupiter in Cancer are working together today, on something that requires a little effort. Mars in Taurus can be stubborn and fixed. Jupiter in Cancer can be emotionally reactive or excessive. The question for this day is: where are you holding on too tightly? Where are you being driven by feeling rather than clarity? Get outside if you can. Nature has a way of cutting through these kinds of noise.

29th June
Mars moves into Gemini and the pace changes almost immediately. Overstimulated, fast, a little unpredictable but fun if you can keep up with it. Ideas start arriving faster than you can sort them. If you are prone to anxiety, it is worth grounding yourself intentionally during this period. Mars in Gemini has a lot of energy but it can be scattered.

30th June Full Moon
On the last day of June, Mercury stations prior to its three week retrograde in Cancer, and the full moon rises in Capricorn.

Mercury retrograde in Cancer is intuitive and unspoken. Thoughts arrive as feelings. Communications happen through the body as gut instincts. The themes it brings up are emotional: home, family, where we come from, and belonging. If there is something unresolved in those areas, this retrograde may bring them to the surface.

As always, have a backup plan if you are travelling or have anything important scheduled. Stay flexible. The best day to sign contracts or make significant decisions is the Mercury cazimi on the 13th of July, when the sun and Mercury meet exactly and clarity briefly returns.

The full moon in Capricorn feels heavy in a good way, the way the end of something significant always does. Capricorn full moons are about what we have built and what we are ready to release. The Pluto-Neptune sextile is humming in the background, lending it an undertone of power and dissolution. Shortly after the moon peaks, it squares off with Saturn, the ruler of this full moon. A reminder to be disciplined. Whatever you are completing, finish it properly.

July

1st July
Jupiter enters Leo, where it will stay for the next year. Look back to 2014 and 2015. What was expanding in your life then? Similar themes are likely to resurface over the next 12 months.. Leo rules creativity, self-expression, visibility, and the sheer pleasure of being alive. Jupiter here is generous, warm and theatrical.

Collectively, expect fashion to get more fun and dramatic. Anticipate really good art, books, and films. Also a renewed interest in the human-made and the heartfelt, which makes sense when you consider that Pluto in Aquarius directly faces Jupiter in Leo. The question of artificial versus authentic is going to become louder over the coming year.

In the meantime: overdress for the occasion. Wear your hair bigger. Put on some red lipstick. Even just to pop down to the shops.

2nd July
Mars in Gemini squares the nodes in Pisces and Virgo, which creates some dynamic tension around the collective direction we are heading. This could feel like a difficult day in the news or in the broader atmosphere. It may also feel personal, a pull between where you have come from and where you are trying to go. If something does arise, what is the tension asking of you?

3rd July
Mars and Uranus meet in Gemini. This is an exclamation point in the sky: ideas, technology, thinking, breakthroughs that arrive almost too fast. Mars is the engine, pushing the sparks of Uranian insight along. Expect the unexpected in the world of information and communication. This could be exciting or disorienting depending on where you are standing.

4th July
The day after, Mars moves into a flowing connection with Pluto in Aquarius and Neptune in Aries. Power, inspiration and drive all at once. Directly following the Mars-Uranus meeting the day before, it adds fuel and fire.

6th July
The sun in Cancer and Saturn in Aries are in dynamic tension. There is an immature quality here, perhaps a resistance to accepting responsibility for something. It might show up personally as an unwillingness to deal with what is in front of you, or collectively as leadership that is reactive or avoidant.

7th July
Uranus takes Mars's place in the Pluto-Neptune configuration. Where Mars was energy and drive, Uranus is erratic, electric, and unpredictable. The pattern that began building on the 3rd now has a more destabilising quality. This aspect holds strong through the rest of Cancer season, and it sits at the heart of the bigger story unfolding in July.

10th July
Venus enters Virgo and provides grounding and discernment to the speed and electricity of the past week. She is practical and detail-oriented, interested in what is real and what actually works. During what could be a collectively destabilising stretch, this is an anchor.

12th July
Venus in Virgo then meets the south node. An inward, reflective moment. What do you value? What is worth holding onto, and what can be released? This is not a dramatic question, it is a practical one. South node encounters tend to feel like completion, not a crisis.

13th July
The Mercury cazimi: the sun and Mercury meet exactly in Cancer. This is the clearest point of the Mercury retrograde period, the moment when whatever has been murky or unresolved becomes briefly illuminated. If you need to sign something, have an important conversation, or make a decision that has been waiting, this is the day.

Later the same day, Venus in Virgo and Uranus in Gemini square off with one another. One wants and values clarity, the other seeks disruption and movement. This might feel like a tension between what you know to be true or what you value, with new information or ideas that challenge this.

14th July New Moon
The new moon in Cancer falls right in the middle of the Mercury retrograde, also happening in Cancer. Usually, a new moon is about planting seeds and setting new intentions for the cycle ahead. Instead, ask yourself what you want to begin again, or try a little differently this time. Think of it more as a do-over. A new moon in Cancer is inward, quiet and, with the retrograde, this one is about reflection. Use the clarity that came through with the Mercury cazimi the day prior. The world around you is moving fast and may feel too loud. Use this new moon to cosy up in your shell, and feel into what matters to you right now.

19th July
Mars in Gemini forms a flowing connection with Saturn in Aries. At the same time, Jupiter in Leo moves into a face-off with Pluto in Aquarius. And all of this is happening while Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto continue their own configuration in the background.

Mars is adding fuel. Saturn wants to apply the brake. Jupiter is expanding everything, blowing it wide open. And facing off with Pluto, it is taking on whatever power dynamics are at play and asking them to account for themselves. This is a lot at once. But hopefully, if this configuration does what outer planet configurations can do at their best, it begins to offer some wider meaning or understanding.

The Bigger Picture
These are not fast-moving planets having a quick conversation. Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are the slow outer planets of our solar system, the ones whose cycles span decades or generations. When several of them form harmonious aspects simultaneously, something significant is bound to take place collectively.

The French astrologer André Barbault, widely considered one of the greatest collective astrologers of the 20th century, wrote about this July 2026 configuration for years before his death in 2019. He described it as the most beautiful configuration of the 21st century. He called it a reflowering. A relaunch of civilisation after a long period of contraction. His view was that this pattern, now often called the Barbault Basket, would mark the end of a major cycle of collective crisis and the beginning of something new for humanity.

So what might this mean collectively? A few threads to consider for the astrology of July:
• The boundaries between science, spirituality, technology and mystery may become thinner. Ideas that have traditionally lived separately start talking to each other.

• The tension between artificial intelligence and human-made becomes impossible to avoid. Jupiter in Leo facing off with Pluto in Aquarius is, among other things, a very clear astrological symbol for this.

• A collective shift toward cooperation over conflict. Barbault's own words were that people would become more anti-war and more willing to help each other.

• The structures and systems of the previous era, many of which have been under enormous pressure since 2020, may begin to give way to something more aligned with where we are actually headed.

• Not an end to difficulty, but possibly the beginning of a different relationship with it.

And personally?
• Leo, Aquarius, Aries, and Gemini placements will feel most activated by this configuration. Big change may be afoot.

• Think back to 2014-2015. Which area of your life were you experiencing growth and expansion? The same themes will likely crop up again this month.

• The Uranus-Pluto-Neptune pattern may feel destabilising, but destabilisation often leads us towards liberation. Where in your life have you been too fixed? Where are you stuck? What might be asking to shift? To die away?

• The Mercury retrograde in Cancer, running through most of July, asks you to revisit emotional conversations and unfinished business around home and family. This may feel like the last thing you feel like confronting, but it’s necessary so a new era or rebirth can begin.

• Last but not least, trust your intuition and follow where it is guiding you. Remember that when your intuition speaks, it is clear and obvious, not ruminating or fearful. Take action. Launch the thing, leave the thing.
